Our program gives you the opportunity to study French, German, Japanese, Russian and Spanish—each offered as a major and minor. Depending on your preference, you can focus your degree in one or two languages. As a foreign languages major, you’ll also have exciting opportunities to study abroad and experience other cultures first hand.

Study abroad and experience living overseas

  • Studying overseas is a transforming experience that will enrich your life and education. Many foreign language majors participate in study abroad programs in Germany, France, Switzerland, Quebec and Spain. We have student exchange partnerships with several foreign universities, and you can spend one or more semesters abroad.

Get the support you need to succeed

  • Learning a new language is a challenge for anyone, and it’s important to know you have help available when you need it. In addition to being acclaimed authors and researchers, our faculty are accessible and dedicated teachers. We have expert tutors in Japanese, German, Russian, Spanish and French. We also offer a language lab, weekly conversation hours (Kaffeeklatsch) and student clubs, which are all great ways to make new connections and get additional support.
