Applications open for 2025 Dalton Highway artist residency

Artists and writers can apply for the 2025 Dalton Highway artist-in-residence position, co-hosted this year by the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ and the .

The selected artist will have seven to 10 days to travel the Dalton Highway, speak with land managers and research scientists and pursue their discipline amid Alaska’s inspiring Arctic landscapes. 

The residency can take place any time between June and September 2025. The position is open to writers and visual, auditory and performing artists.

This year’s residency will be split between the UAF Institute of Arctic Biology’s Toolik Field Station, one of the BLM cabins or campgrounds or a backcountry location. Residency location depends on the interests and outdoor experience of the selected artist. The selected artist can stay up to five days at a BLM facility and up to five days at Toolik Field Station.

The program provides round-trip transportation between Fairbanks and the residency locations. At Toolik Field Station, the selected artist will receive housing, safety equipment and meals. The artist will be responsible for the initial travel to Fairbanks.
